What a mess! Bring them back.

You’re the last surviving sorcerer’s apprentice of Sorth, the dark lord of castle CantSayTheNameOrIHaveToDie. Whilst cleaning the library, you dropped the „Dark Grimoires of Sorth“ to the ground and all banished creatures could escape. Now it’s on you to clean up the mess. Look for all escaped creatures and push them to the their pentagram to ban them back into the Dark Grimoires of Sorth.

How to play:

  • Use the cursor keys to move cursor over a creature
  • Use space bar to select creature, then cursor key to „push“ creature in that direction
  • Move all creatures to the pentagram of their color. Push spacebar to release and ban the creature into a book.

Game play:

The first stage, The Village, introduces you to the game play and how to solve the puzzles, i.e. how to move around and finding the right order. Collect hearts (gives you extra lives) and potions (avoid dying on deadly skulls) in later levels and pick up the clock if you’re running out of time. Make your way all through the castle and it’s surroundings and ban all creatures in about 100 brain melting puzzles.

TIP: From time to time, you might need help from other creatures to solve the puzzle. You can even awake already banned creatures if you need them. With every next stage, the game introduces up to seven new creature types and obstacles like arrows (redirect your creature in a given way), bumpers (pushes the creature back), portals („teleports“ the creature of that color between portals), blocker stones (can be only removed by creatures of that color), keys („unlocks“ a locked pentagram of that color) and deadly skulls that kill your creature (this will cost you a life if you don’t have collected the potions and pushes the creature back to start).

 

Impressionen

Castle Keeper lag schon länger als Konzept in meiner Schublade und als Newgrounds zum StencylJam 2014 aufrief, habe ich die Gelegenheit genutzt und Castle Keeper endlich umgesetzt. Mir blieben für Design und Entwicklung nur gut 28 Tage und leider haben es nicht alle Features in diese Version geschafft. Es sind gut 60 von den geplanten 110 Räumen / Puzzeln umgesetzt und nicht alle geplanten Kreaturen und Hindernisse konnten implementiert werden.

Castle Keeper erreichte mit Platz 17 von etwas über 250 Einsendungen eine brauchbare Position im vorderen Mittelfeld, allerdings muss ich zugeben das die Gewinnertitel wirklich starke Umsetzungen waren.

Für den Spätsommer möchte ich das Spiel auf Mobiltelefone und Tablets portieren (Android und iOS) und das Gameplay noch etwas anpassen.
